Sitting tall and proud like a stunning white lighthouse overlooking the Harbour of Whitehaven, The Beacon Museum tracks the social history of the local coastal area of The Lake District. Your visit covers 5 floors, inclusive of a harbour gallery with an annual program of National touring and temporary exhibitions along with local Cumbrian art installations. One of the highlight is the 4th floor gallery with its panoramic views over the Solway coast.

Dear customers, please note that due to our current building works, the 3rd Floor of the museum (Copeland’s Changing Times) is currently closed, and the building may be noisy. Entry is currently through our new ground floor shop – please follow the road round past the Bistro and to the left. We apologise for any inconvenience’ caused.
