The 2012 Pit Parade will this year form part of The Whitehaven Carnival.

Now in it’s 3rd year, the Pit Parade is a wonderful community event that commemorates the mining heritage of Whitehaven and the surrounding area.

Organised by The Beacon, Haig Colliery Mining Museum and New Arts North, the parade gives local schools the opportunity to take part in free activity sessions to create a banner that will have pride of place at the head of the 2012 parade.

Local school children have also had the opportunity to compose a brand new song that will be sang at various locations along the route, as the Pit Parade follows the carnival route at approximately 1pm on Saturday 7th July.

Funding for the Pit Parade is thanks to Cumbria Community Foundation, Cumberland Building Society and The Beacon.
