Lowry’s Colours Painting Workshop with Alex Jakob-Whitworth

FLIP magic show

If you’ve visited The Beacon Museum’s L. S. Lowry exhibition you will no doubt have seen the artworks produced by artist Alex Jakob-Whitworth and local school pupils. Now adults will have the chance to improve their painting skills and explore Lowry’s colour palette.

You will need to bring your own paints and supplies. You can bring acrylics or watercolours or oil pastels. Please no oil paints.

You will need to bring the following supplies for this workshop:
  • Paints: White (bring lots – if using water colours then please bring white designers gouache), Yellow ochre, Prussian Blue/Phthalo Blue, Black, Vermillion/Cadmium Red or Scarlet.
  • Brushes for your paints and anything else you like painting with. If Acrylic – bring also decorator brushes (a very cheap set will be fine). If water-colour – a sword-liner brush or Chinese painting brush or something similar. The latter can be bought quite cheaply from Amazon.
  • Rags/kitchen towel.
  • Table cover and floor cover so we don’t get paint onto the carpet! I have sheet plastic if you forget.
  • A surface you like to work on – i.e. heavy weight paper/pre-prepared board (gessoed).
  • A portable easel/table easel if you prefer working at one or are wanting to work bigger than A3.
  • Hardback sketch book – we will be working outside.
  • Drawing/sketching materials.
  • Masking tape.
  • Apron.
  • Water pot.
  • Outdoor clothes!
