Beakid is The Beacon Museum’s creative, hands-on monthly activity programme for children of all ages.
Designed to spark curiosity and celebrate imagination, Beakid gives young visitors the chance to explore, build, create and discover through fun, themed workshops and events. Connects children to local heritage and science themes, and provides accessible, fun activities for families.

UPCOMING SESSIONS
Dragon Boat Festival Workshop
Saturday 13 June 2026 | 11am & 2pm | £5 per person
1.5 hour session
In this themed workshop, we’ll explore the Dragon Boat Festival through storytelling and games, learning why it’s celebrated and the legends of Qu Yuan. You’ll also create your own personalised kite and mini cork sailboat – and race it – while discovering traditions like dragon boat racing.

What is the meaning behind Beakid?
Beakid captures the spirit of The Beacon Museum’s children’s programme perfectly — a place where young people can explore, imagine, discover and simply be kids. The name celebrates curiosity, creativity and the joy of hands-on learning, all inspired by the Museum’s roots as a guiding “beacon” of knowledge and light.

OCEAN ART ADVENTURE: Crafts, Games & Sea Art

Join us this May for a fun and creative hands-on session exploring the impact of plastic pollution and how we can protect our seas.
Learn about marine pollution, create a driftwood fish mobile, make a clay fish fridge magnet, play games and contribute to a collaborative sea-themed art display.

BUILD IT, CODE IT, RACE IT!

1 hour – 1.5 hour session
Get ready to build, code and race!
In this hands-on workshop, children will work in pairs to build their own LEGO® WeDo race car and learn how to programme it to move and race. Once the cars are ready, it’s time to test them on the track and see whose creation is the fastest!
But the fun doesn’t stop there. Special guests Spot and Sparky, the amazing programmed robot dogs from Sellafield, will also be visiting. Children will have the chance to meet them up close and explore how they work through play and interaction.

Easter Craft

Get into the springtime spirit and join us for a fun, hands-on Easter workshop! Together, we’ll be crafting colourful Easter crowns and designing beautiful birdhouses to celebrate the season in style.

Spring – Plant & Grow

Celebrate spring with a hands-on workshop full of colour and creativity! Explore flowers, learn how plants grow, and get your hands in the soil by planting your very own sunflower to take home. Kids will connect with nature, welcome the season of growth, and watch their sunflower bloom long after the workshop ends.
Chinese New Year
Celebrate Chinese New Year with a special two-part experience the whole family will love!
Kids will start with a 1-hour creative workshop, making colourful crafts inspired by Lunar New Year traditions. Then they’ll enjoy a magical 1-hour animal encounter, meeting real creatures up close and learning fun facts about them.
