Calling all young comic creators! Enter our comic competition for a chance to have your work printed and displayed at The Beacon Museum.

Who can Enter?

Age group 1 (4-6 years)

Age group 2 (7-10 years)

Age group 3 (11 – 16 years)

What to create?

One original comic per child that’s hand-drawn. Family-friendly content only.

Important Information

  • The child keeps the copyright to their work
  • By entering, you agree that the museum may print and display the comic and use images of it for promotion
  • Judges’ decision is final

COMIC COMPETITION – Terms and Conditions

1. Organiser The competition is organised by The Beacon Museum, located at West Strand, Whitehaven, CA28 7LY (“the Organiser”).

2. Eligibility The competition is free to enter. Open to children aged 4 to 16 years old, at the time of entry. Entrants must fall into one of the following age categories: Age Group 1: 4–6 years, Age Group 2: 7–10 years, Age Group 3: 11–16 years. Entries must be submitted by a parent or legal guardian on behalf of the child.

3. How to Enter Each child may submit one comic entry only. Comics must be the original work of the child. Entries must be submitted by 22 February 2026, 4.00pm via in person or email (thebeacon@copeland.gov.uk). Late, incomplete, or damaged entries may not be accepted.

4. Comic Requirements  Comics may be hand-drawn or digitally created using the template provided by The Beacon Museum. Content must be suitable for a family audience. Comics containing offensive, inappropriate, or unsafe content will be disqualified.

5. Judging Entries will be judged by a panel selected by the Organiser. Judging will be based on creativity, storytelling, originality, and effort, appropriate to the child’s age group. The judges’ decision is final.

6. Winners and Prizes One or more winners may be selected from each age group. Winning comics will be: Printed, and Displayed at The Beacon Museum, just outside of the Harbour Gallery for a set period of time. No cash alternative is available. The Organiser reserves the right to substitute prizes if necessary.

7. Copyright and Usage The child retains copyright of their comic. By entering, the parent/guardian grants the Organiser a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to: Print, display, and exhibit the comic in the museum Use images of the comic for promotional, educational, and publicity purposes (including online and social media) No additional compensation will be provided for such use.

8. Personal Information Personal information will be used only for the purposes of administering the competition and contacting winners. The Organiser will handle all data in accordance with applicable data protection laws.

9. Publicity Winners may be asked to take part in publicity (e.g. photographs or first name and age displayed alongside the comic). No child’s full name will be published without parent/guardian consent.

10. General The Organiser reserves the right to cancel, suspend, or amend the competition if necessary. By submitting an entry, parents/guardians confirm they have read and agreed to these Terms and Conditions.
