The Beacon Museum in Whitehaven invites families to discover a brand-new, immersive play experience like no other this summer. From 21 June to 14 September 2025, Giant Soft Bricks Playland takes over the museum’s Harbour Gallery with a colourful indoor playground that promises endless fun, learning, and imagination for children aged 6 months to 8.

Packed with hundreds of colourful giant – foam bricks, this interactive world offers little adventurers the chance to explore castles, dive into rainbow caves, bounce on trampolines, and build magical worlds of their own. With a giant inflatable slide to a foam brick house, mega blocks and puzzles, every corner is bursting with opportunities to move, build, play and be inspired.

Sessions are one hour long and run throughout the day at 10:00am, 11:15am, 12:30pm, 1:45pm, and 3:00pm. Each child’s session costs just £5, which is separate from museum admission. Families who only wish to visit the playland do not need to purchase a museum ticket. To ensure a consistent and safe experience, each area will also be cleaned and reset before the next group arrives.

With high demand expected, advance booking is strongly recommended and can be made through the Beacon Museum’s website. Walk-in spaces will be limited. Visitors should also note that cancellations require at least 48 hours’ notice.

For those looking to celebrate a special occasion, Giant Soft Bricks Playland also offers a fantastic party package. For £130, up to 20 children can enjoy a one-hour play session followed by 30 minutes in the Portal room for food and cake. Full payment is required at the time of booking.

Councillor Anne Quilter, Cumberland Council’s Executive Member for Vibrant and Healthy Places, said: “Giant Soft Bricks Playland is a wonderful addition to The Beacon Museum’s summer programme, offering something truly special for local families and visitors alike. It’s great to see spaces like this being used in creative ways that bring joy, encourage learning, and make Cumberland a destination for fun, family-friendly experiences.”

Heather Holmes, The Beacon Museum’s Customer and Visitor Experience Manager added:

“We are transforming how our younger visitors experience The Beacon Museum – using
our gallery space in a bold, unexpected way to spark curiosity and fun at every turn.”

Whether you’re escaping a rainy day or looking to make summer holiday memories, Giant Soft Bricks Playland is more than just play—it’s an experience families will want to return to again and again.
