Marchon – ‘Home from home, an ongoing conversation’

On: Saturday 4 February 2023

Until: Sunday 16 April 2023

‘Marchon: Home from Home, an Ongoing Conversation’ is a series of works from local artist Julie O’Neill and her collaborators.
The multimedia exhibition is the result of a year-long partnership between the artist, other creators and those who worked at the chemical site at Kells, Whitehaven, before it closed in 2005.
The exhibition includes recollections brought to life through interviews, memorabilia, film, photographs and textiles.
Julie said: “At the heart of the project lie the notions of reshaping legacy, home and work spaces, and identity.
“Through the lens of a socially engaged contemporary arts practice, the work emerges as a multi medium installation, situated in The Beacon Museum overlooking the harbour, the latter once a vital part of the industry’s production process. The pieces are selected from a wide range of research and artworks made, found, loaned and gifted in response to those collaborations.”
